Intern Testimonials 2023

Working with engaged and curious interns is one of the joys of my job. It’s National Intern Day, so I’ll share some recent testimonials (I’m pleased and humbled by their words).

Also, I will soon be interviewing for the fall internship position, so please send resumes to chris@chrisbuck.com

Chris Buck gives a complete look into what being a dedicated freelance photographer is like. How to find your own calling, not only in pictures, but also in life. Maddy Riche (Spring 2023)

Chris differentiated himself as the only mentor I’ve had who made learning-on-the-job a stated priority. For example, he insisted that I have at least three questions prepared after each session I came on set for. For the keen, willing, and eager, working with Chris Buck can be a transformative experience. Michelle Yee (Fall 2017)

I found Chris to be truly invested in my development and my time working for him felt highly personalized; which is a rare offering. I was always brought on set and gained firsthand experience in the production space and witnessed his entire approach. Ajani Dharmapala (Spring 2019)

Chris was also very accessible and open to questions about anything related to the field of photography, and gave great advice for my career. Hannah Macaluso-Green (Spring 2021)

He will bring you along to shoot days, exposing you to the long hours, conversations with the clients and creatives, and the energy of the day. Rachel Woodard (Summer 2017)

Reflecting on the John Oliver shoot that we did together, the memories come rushing back vividly. I assisted in researching and gathering props, darting around Manhattan all day. We had a limited time with Oliver and multiple setups; the second he walked in, the energy surged, and it was showtime. Witnessing and assisting Chris as he meticulously orchestrated the shoot was nothing short of magical! Meltem Saricicek (Spring 2018)

Working on set with him, seeing him interact with his subjects opened my eyes to setting the tone for a great session, as well as dealing with quick problem solving during a shoot.  Sharimar Y. Cruz (Fall 2018)

His focused motivation towards each and every session inspires you as an intern to make every shoot as incredible as the last. Having the opportunity to work hands-on with professional equipment, under a professional lens allows you to learn more than in any class. Jordan Szostak (Spring 2022)

Working with him in the office showed me the work that needs to be done in-between jobs. I was able to listen in on conversations with clients and be on set watching him work with subjects to get the photo. It's been seven years since and I am still working with people that I met through Chris. The mentorship doesn't end after the internship is over. Even all these years later Chris is still invested in seeing me succeed. Benjamin Travers (Fall 2016)

After the internship ended, he continued to provide guidance, feedback and constructive criticism, consistently challenging me to keep pushing my work and finding my voice. Justin Lee (Fall 2019)

If you are interested in becoming a full-time photographer, doing an internship with a professional like Chris Buck is a great way to understand the integral parts of running a business. Also, he emphasized the importance of feeding the crew good food on a set. Arielle Brown (Spring/Summer 2017)

There is something really encouraging about the way Chris runs his internship. I find myself constantly thinking back to all that I’ve learned! Grace Pula (Fall 2022)

This is a crash course on how to with be an artist while accepting the compromises of the industry. A crash course on adulting as a photographer! Federica Belli (Summer 2019)

This is a rare opportunity to understand everything it takes to go from ideas on a piece of paper to a unique and curious portrait. If you’re a portrait photographer, I can’t recommend this opportunity enough. Sonny Thakur (Fall 2015)
